My Childhood Alphabet
DraumVærk (DK)
What is your clearest childhood memory? In an intense and poetic tour-de-force, the performer Lotus Lykke Skov takes the audience on a shivering journey into a pitch-dark memory chamber. In the dark, she evokes the strongest, happiest, most difficult, most ordinary and most distinctive memories from a childhood stretched between two identities. One at mother's and another at father's.
My Childhood Alphabet is a powerful story, staged as an engaging performance in a pitch-dark room for 24 participating audiences at a time. A moving, intimate, and sound-filled experience for adults of all ages, created as a tribute to community, poetry and the inner child in the sentient body.
ABOUT DRAUMVÆRK
DraumVærk is a theater and performing arts laboratory that creates performances and artistic processes between engaging sensory theater and poetic storytelling. The artistic practice is rooted in the question: What can happen if the fundamental way we experience the world and ourselves is through open and curious perception? DraumVærk was founded by performer, stage director and artistic director Lotus Lykke Skov.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE CURATORIAL BACKGROUND FROM THE CURATORIAL TEAM OF SELECTED WORKS FESTIVAL 2025:
"The work's form and narrative style, which is akin to a fragmented storytelling, with shifts in time and situation. The work invites and encourages audience co-creation."
THE PRESS WROTE
"In alphabetical order from A to Z, Lotus Lykke Skov shares memories from her childhood. B for bryllup (wedding), when the mother marries a new man, R for Renselse (purification), Ø for Øvelse (exercise) (…) There are concrete stories, memories of specific feelings and memories of all the things– good or bad – which has shaped the adult human. (...) a delight that this type of sensory experiences is also created for adults.”
